12/30/2023 - “Screenagers: Under the Influence” Documentary Viewing and Discussion with SMART, Inc. on January 30, 2024

The Southbury Public Library invites interested adults and youth in Grades 6-12 to join us for a "Screenagers: Under the Influence" Viewing and Discussion with SMART, Inc. on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 from 6:30pm to 8:00pm in the Kingsley Room of the Southbury Public Library.

Join the Southbury Library and Southbury & Middlebury Acting Responsibly Together (SMART, Inc) for a screening of the documentary “Screenagers: Under the Influence,” followed by a short discussion. This documentary examines the impact of technology on teens' decision-making in relation to addictive substances through both the latest research and the personal experiences of teens and families. This event is for Grades 6-12 and adults, including parents, educators, and all community members interested in learning more about this topic. This event is free, open to residents of any town, and sponsored by the Friends of the Southbury Public Library and SMART, Inc.

About the Film: “Screenagers Under the Influence: Addressing Vaping, Drugs, and Alcohol in the Digital Age” delves into how the tech revolution has reshaped adolescence and its effects on substance use. It also offers solutions for how we can best empower teens as they face decisions about what they will and will not be influenced by. “Screenagers: Under the Influence” focuses on practical solutions for keeping teens safe in a changing world and includes many ways young people are using their wisdom and strength to help each other and themselves through this complicated terrain around substance use.

About SMART, Inc.: SMART, Inc. (Southbury & Middlebury Acting Responsible Together) is the Local Prevention Council for Southbury & Middlebury and works under the Department of Mental Health and Addiction services, in collaboration with Region 15 and other community sources, to increase public awareness about the prevention of substance abuse, identify & remove barriers to the wellbeing and successful development of our youth, and to create and maintain safe communities and school environments.
