2/20/2024 - The Ali Ryerson-Joe Carter Duo on March 21, 2024

On Thursday, March 21, 2024 from 7:00pm - 8:30pm in the Kingsley Room, join us for a Brazilian Jazz experience with the Ali Ryerson-Joe Carter Duo.

Join us as the Ali Ryerson-Joe Carter Duo celebrate the music of Brazil – Samba, Bossa Nova, Choro, Baiao and more, styles that are based on and a blend of African rhythms, indigenous rhythms and European folk and dance rhythms. Ali and Joe take things a step further by using their Jazz backgrounds to add Jazz improvisation into the tunes, creating a sound that blends the best of both worlds. In other words: the best of Music from “Both Sides of the Equator”.

Joe Carter has recorded and performed with Jazz artists such Art Farmer and Lee Konitz and with Brazilian artists such as Luiz Eca and Mauricio Einhorn, and others. In addition, he has recorded several CDs through the years, his most recent is Both Sides of the Equator, with bassist David Finck and percussionist Ze Mauricio.

Ali has recorded and/or performed with jazz greats such as Red Rodney, Roy Haynes, Kenny Barron, Frank Wess, Hubert Laws, Stephane Grappelli, Harold Danko, Art Farmer, Mike Mainieri, Joe Beck, and Gene Bertoncini, as well as a recent guest appearance with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.

Like all Southbury Public Library programs, this program is free to attend and open to anyone regardless of town of residency. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Southbury Library. Registration is requested. Please visit the link below for more information and to register.
