
MESSAGE FROM P&R DIRECTOR
Happy first week of Spring everyone! The Easter Bunny dropped off the eggs for our Spring Event and thanks to our Commission members and the Rochambeau Rebels – they are stuffed and ready for this Saturday the 28th! We will see you for the candy scramble and live bunnies. For all information about the event – including details about this year’s special GOLDEN EGGS, please visit our website.
Thanks to our Public Works crew our fields will be opening next Wednesday April 1st. We can’t wait to see those fields filled with kids again. I hope all the sports leagues have great opening weeks!

WINTER GUESSING CONTEST - WINNER!

Thank you to the 211 people who guessed the number of pompoms in the jar. Josh L. guessed closest to the total of 194 pompoms with a guess of 196. Teddy was close as well with a guess of 191. We will see you again the in fall for our next guessing contest!
ART IN THE PARK - Saturday, April 25, 2026

Southbury Parks and Recreation in partnership with the Southbury Arts & Culture Alliance and Middlebury and Southbury Equity and Inclusion Council is having its fourth annual collaborated special event: Art in the Park!
Join us for a day of free arts & crafts projects. Learn a new technique while you create your own art or try your hand at a free craft project. Enter free raffle drawings for fun prizes.
NEW THIS YEAR: For the first hundred attendees: we will be giving out FREE fried dough from Vinci’s Concessions. Choose your toppings and decorate your snack artfully!
(Truck will only be serving fried dough, quantities are limited, no day-of food sales allowed.)
NEW LOCATION: This event is free to attend at Settlers Park, 280 Crook Horn Road from 11:00am to 1:00pm.
While the event is free, all participants are asked to bring a non-perishable food item for the Southbury Food Bank. See their list of critical needs here.

APRIL VACATION CAMP: Grades 1-6

SPARK Business Academy presents an enrichment program during April Vacation Break for children enrolled in grades 1-6. Children will explore chain reactions through Rub Goldberg machines with hands-on activities! Siblings will receive a $25 discount on regular registration prices. Please pack a lunch, refillable water bottle, and snacks.
The program is held at the Southbury Parks & Recreation building, 561 Main Street South, Southbury.

CT BOATING SAFETY CERTIFICATE COURSE: Ages 10+
Come earn your boater's certificate with us! Successful completion of this 8-hour Boating Safety Course satisfies the Connecticut educational requirements for operating boats, personal watercraft (PWC), and towing (water skiing and tubing).
Boat America will cover all of the basic topics required for the safe operation of recreational boating and seamanship. It will also cover safe personal watercraft operation and towing. Family participation is encouraged. Please pack a refillable water bottle, lunch, and snacks as breaks will be taken throughout the day.
This will be the only time the course is offered through Parks and Recreation this year.

CHEERLEADING WITH THE ROCHAMBEAU REBELS: Grades K-12

The Rochambeau Rebels are dedicated to providing an affordable competitive cheerleading program to area youth. This program provides a balanced and sustainable approach to youth cheerleading recognizing the needs of the athletes and their families. They are committed to excellence, creativity, and integrity that goes beyond the cheer mat.
The Rochambeau Rebels season will run from September through March. The Rebels will practice twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Southbury Parks and Recreation and Rochambeau Middle School. Each practice will be 1.5 hours long. The younger squad will practice from 5:30pm- 7:00pm, and the older squad practice time will be 7:00pm-8:30pm. Age group split depends on registered participants. There will be no practices on weekends and no mandatory parent volunteer hours. The Rebels will not do regular sideline cheering for any sport. Competitive cheer skill building will be the only focus.

Pomperaug Warriors Football and Cheer - Registration Open
Give your child the ultimate Football & Cheer experience with Pomperaug Youth Football & Cheer! Whether they’re just starting out or ready for the next level, there’s a place for them here. From building strength and leadership on the field to bringing energy and confidence to the sidelines and competition mat, our athletes grow through teamwork, discipline, and lifelong friendships in a supportive, team-first environment.
- Flag Football: Grades K-1 – a fun, safe way to learn the game!
- Tackle Football: Grades 2-8 – Build skills, confidence, and teamwork! Practices are 4-5x a week and games on Sunday.
- Sideline Dance: Ages 4-14 – A fun and high-energy program that builds spirit, confidence, and community while performing at football games.
- Competitive Cheer: Ages 5-16 – A dynamic team experience focused on skill development, teamwork, strength, and confident performances at competitions.
Cheer practices begin in July and run through December, while football practices begin August 3 and run through mid-November.
