Parks and Recreation

The Spring Extravaganza is tomorrow, rain or shine, at the Parks and Recreation building. Candy scramble location (outdoor vs indoor) will be posted on our website at 9am on Saturday.

Date: Saturday, April 5, 2025

Activities taking place:

• Candy Scrambles separated by ages: 4 and under and 5 and up (candy-filled eggs and capsules placed out for children to collect)
• Spring themed crafts
• Decorated spring scenes for photo opportunities with a bunny and our photo booth with props
• Non-perishable food collection for the Southbury Food Bank

Time:

• 9:30 am to 11:30 am: Crafts and Activities; Sensory-friendly activities, including a modified Candy Scramble, will occur throughout the event in a special accommodations area on the Senior Center Side of the building. NOTE: Last entry into the building will be at 11:15 am with all activities wrapping up at 11:30 am.
• Candy Scramble Times (arrive 10 minutes before): 10:00am and 11:00am SHARP! Sensory friendly Scramble at 10:30am - participation by sign up only, please check in with staff upon arrival.
  The Candy Scrambles will take place on the field behind Pomperaug Elementary School, weather permitting. (The Candy Scrambles may be moved inside the Pomperaug Elementary School gym in case of inclement weather.)

What to bring:

• A basket or bag to hold your goodies from the Candy Scramble and crafts!
• A non-perishable food item for the Southbury Food Bank. Visit their website to find the current list of critical needs: www.southburyfoodbank.org/ways-to-help/#fooddonation.

Location:

• Parks and Recreation/Senior Center Building at 561 Main Street South. The Candy Scramble will take place next door at at Pomperaug Elementary School - staff will be available to direct you.

Parking:

• Patrons may park at one of several locations: Parks and Recreation/Senior Center parking lot, Town Hall lower and upper parking lot, and/or Pomperaug Elementary School parking lot.
• There will be a designated handicapped parking and drop-off area for people with accessibility needs on the Senior Center Parking lot side monitored by our staff.
