Southbury Arbor Day Celebration - April 24, 2026
To celebrate Arbor Day, the Southbury Historical Tree Restoration Committee held a ceremony at lower/west parking lot of Southbury Town Hall, next to the newly planted three cherry trees. Chairman Tom Gaipa gave an overview of the committee’s history, its mission and he presented the new trees planted to mark this year’s Arbor Day. The trees were planted by the Southbury Public Works employees. First Selectman Tim O'Neil read the proclamation declaring April 24, 2026 as Arbor Day in the town of Southbury. For 28th year in a row, Southbury was named a Tree City USA. Selectwomen Cathy De Carli and Kelly Keenan, and the Committee members Frank Pauza and Steve Ulc were also in attendance.
The Southbury Historical Tree Restoration Committee also dedicated a new bench in the upper parking lot of Town Hall in honor of our past and present Public Works employees who have and continue to support trees in the town, and in honor of the longtime Southbury arborist and tree warden Pat Kearns for his many years of service to the community. Southbury Resident, Vince Sinopoli of Sinopoli Construction generously donated his time and expertise installing the concrete pad and bench.
