To commemorate the United States’ 250th anniversary and Southbury’s involvement in the Revolutionary War, the Southbury America 250th Commission unveiled a new Revolutionary War Monument on the Veterans Memorial Green on July 4, 2026.
The ceremony included a presentation by John Dwyer, Town Historian; remarks from Commission Chair Mary Korsu and Southbury First Selectman Tim O’Neil; Pledge of Allegiance by Southbury Scout Troops, and performances of the National Anthem and "God Bless America" by Southbury Parks and Recreation Commissioner Jim Tornatore.
At 2 p.m., Southbury joined communities across Connecticut in marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence with a statewide bell-ringing ceremony.
The America 250th Southbury Committee would like to extend their appreciation and thanks to Jayson Dahlgard from Carpino Funeral Home for coordinating the creation and delivery of the Revolutionary War Monument, that was dedicated on July 4th at Veterans Memorial Park and to Vince Sinopoli of Sinopoli Contractors providing the foundation that the stone sits on.
