John Dwyer and his family came to Southbury in 1984 to move into his wife's, Lynn, ancestral home. Their children were the 8th generation descendants to live there. The proximity to this heritage spurred an interest in antiquities into a study of local history.
By profession he is a Food Scientist formerly employed as Technical Sales Manager. In addition to local history research his past-times include genealogy, military re-enacting, restoration and 19th century American music.
John has contributed to numerous local projects related to the preservation and study of Southbury's architecture and ancient industrial activities. He received a Merit Award from the Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation for his restoration efforts at the Candee Wheeler House and barns (a project featured on HGTV), serves on the Historic Buildings Commission, and supports the efforts of the Southbury Historical Society.
John recently wrote a book “The Revolution. Southbury at War: Pork and Patriots” describing how Southbury and its people helped to save George Washington and the Continental Army. The book is available for purchase online.
