On Wednesday, October 23rd the Town of Southbury was awarded with the 2024 Gold Certified Community Award in Best Practices in Economic Development and Land Use Planning by Connecticut Economic Development Association (CEDAS). Southbury was one of three communities in the state achieving the distinction of gold for 2024. First Selectman Jeffrey Manville and Economic Development Director Kevin Bielmeier received the award at CEDAS’ Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony, held at the Windham Golf Club. Press Release.

SOUTHBURY EARNS SILVER CERTIFICATION FROM SUSTAINABLE CT

On November 13th, 4:00-7:00pm Southbury will be recognized as a 2024 Silver Certified Community and presented with a plaque to commemorate the achievement, at the Sustainable CT Annual Awards Celebration at the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center in Old Saybrook, CT. “Silver Certification reflects advanced initiatives in sustainable practices and community engagement. This achievement highlights a proactive approach to sustainability and an extraordinary commitment to equity.” ~ From the Press Release.

SOUTHBURY SHOP & STROLL: NOVEMBER 9, 2024

The Southbury Food Bank will host the first annual Southbury Shop & Stroll on Saturday, November 9th from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. This seasonal event invites community members and visitors to explore local shops and restaurants, while embracing the joy of holiday shopping, and consider making a donation while doing so. BUSINESS RECOVERY CENTERS

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and FEMA Disaster Recovery Center in Southbury has been temporarily moved to Sacred Heart Church at 910 Main Street South until November 4th. It will then be closed November 5th and 6th and will reopen on Thursday, November 7th back at Southbury Town Hall. SBA’s Customer Service Representatives are available at the Centers to assist business owners complete their disaster loan application, accept documents, and provide updates on an application’s status. The filing deadline to return applications for physical property damage is Nov. 19, 2024. The deadline to return economic injury applications is June 20, 2025.

News12 came to Southbury for their ‘Made in Connecticut’ series to visit Gyre9 at their 40,000 sf facility located at 1200 Main Street South. Gyre9 is manufacturing EV charging stations under the brand name: G9EV.

SOUTHBURY ARTIST OF THE YEAR AWARD CEREMONY & RECEPTION

The Arts & Culture Subcommittee of the Southbury Economic Development Commission is proud to announce the recipient of the 2024 Southbury Artist of the Year Award at an exclusive event sponsored by Riverview Cinemas & Playhouse. This prestigious award recognizes the outstanding contributions of Southbury's local artists and their influence on the town’s vibrant cultural scene.

The finalists for the award are Tammy Dunn, Faith Vicinanza and Alejandra Pelaez. The event will take place at Riverview Cinemas, 690 Main St South, Southbury, on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. FREE but RSVP is required as space is limited - email to artsculturesouthbury@gmail.com. The Town of Southbury is looking for volunteers to serve on the Arts and Culture Subcommittee of the Economic Development Commission. Any Southbury resident interested in serving on this Committee should forward a letter of interest and resume to artsculturesouthbury@gmail.com. The Town is seeking citizen representatives with the relevant experience to promote, develop, encourage and support the arts within the community.

2nd ANNUAL SOUTHBURY CHAMBER AWARDS

Southbury Chamber’s 2nd Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner was held at the Wyndham Southbury on October 2nd. Last year’s winners presented the awards to this year’s recipients. Community Leader went to Danielle Hawthorne of Southbury Neighbors magazine. New Business of the Year was Gyre9.
