TOWN POOL

When I checked on the pool this morning, the sun was shining and the pool decks were being powerwashed in anticipation of Opening Day. Our Public Works Department, with assistance from the Parks and Recreation, Building, and Land Use Departments, have been doing a fantastic job making sure the pool is open for our 2025 Summer Season. It’s been very rewarding to see the results of everyone’s hard work and coordinated efforts. I look forward to see everyone at the Grand Opening Celebration on Friday, June 20, 2025.

Congratulations to Meghan Lennon, Parks and Recreation Director, and Julia Albino, Aquatics Supervisor, who passed a series of classes in pool chemistry and maintenance to receive their Certified Pool Operator designation.

TAX COLLECTOR

I am pleased to share that our Tax Collector, Azra Sholtes, has reported our tax collection rate is currently at 99.5%. Surely, this is something our Town can be proud of.

SUMMER READING AT SOUTHBURY PUBLIC LIBRARY

Our library’s summer reading program began on June 7th. This year’s program theme is “Level Up At Your Library” and is sponsored by Friends of the Southbury Public Library. The program continues through August 15th and features events, prize raffles and more for children, teens, and adults. For more information on how to participate, please visit our library website. The library may be in a temporary location, but that hasn’t stopped them from offering a fantastic summer program schedule again this year. Check out their full events calendar online.

She rescued seven Blue Jay babies on May 29th which she transferred to Wildlife in Crisis in Weston for continuing care. This month Ms. Cedor came to the aid of two baby deer and went back to Wildlife in Crisis with an injured Red-Tailed Hawk.

CRTF BIDS FAREWELL TO STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE STEVIE BENNETT

I would like to thank Stevie Bennett for her service to the town as the Rising Senior-High School Representative for the Southbury Community Relations Task Force. Miss Bennett’s role was the principal liaison between Pomperaug High School and the community. Having worked with Miss Bennett on this committee, I know she has a bright future ahead of her.
