11/25/2025 - FREE Holiday Activities, Events and Contests

holiday programs

Southbury Parks and Recreation invites families to participate in free services, events, and activities during the holiday season. Non-residents are welcome to join, some programs will have a small fee at registration. All programs and activities are held at Southbury Parks and Rec Building, 561 Main Street South, Southbury, CT.


Letters to Santa

A letter from Santa has arrived at Southbury Parks and Recreation - read it here!

The North Pole has asked for the Parks and Recreation team to help collect letters for Santa starting on Tuesday, November 25th. Letters will stop being collected by Thursday, December 11th.

Participants are encouraged to fill out the template letter Santa made especially for Southbury children this year. Visit the Parks and Recreation website for more information and blank Letter To Santa templates. Printed worksheets and coloring pages are available for pick up any time at the Parks and Rec main office at 561 Main Street South.


Stocking Stuffer Workshop

Create your own stocking-stuffer gifts. Participants will get to make 5 different small gifts. Register soon - there is a limited quantity of each type of project. Registration and adult supervision is required.

Gift Wrap Workshop

You bring the presents - we provide the wrapping supplies! There will be paper, scissors, tape, ribbon, and small gift tags with large tables to work on. You can wrap the gifts yourself or get help from a member of our team. If you just want help and had a specific type of paper in mind, you are welcome to bring your own supplies. Registration is required, all ages welcome with adult supervision.

Create the light: FREE Luminary Decorating

Stop by the Parks and Recreation building to decorate a luminary bag that will be used at our Holiday Event to light the path for all attendees. Program is free for all participants: registration and adult supervision required. Once you've decorated your bag, it will be saved at our office to be used at our main event on Saturday, December 6th. Come to the event and walk the path to find your illuminated creation!

Be The Light: Illumination Ceremony

Join us for our annual Holiday Celebration on Saturday December 6th. Free activities will start at 4:00pm in the Parks and Recreation Building, 561 Main Street South and conclude at the Town Hall Green, 501 Main Street South.

Holiday House Lights

Southbury residents and businesses, it’s time to light up the season! Enter our 5th annual Holiday House Lights Contest by decorating your home or business with festive lights and displays. Entry into this contest is free. Let's make Southbury shine bright this holiday season!

More information and entry form at www.southbury-ct.org/holidaylights entries must be received by December 14th.


Guess the PomPoms in the Jar

Stop by the Parks and Recreation building for this season's guessing contest. Fill out a slip of paper with your contact information and your guess of the total number of pompoms in the jar. All ages are welcome to participate in this free contest. Guess deadline: February 27, 2026.


Food Collection

We are collecting non-perishable foods all season in our building. All goods will be donated to the Southbury Food bank. A list of their critical needs can be found here.

Also, the Friends of the Southbury Animal Control are looking for donation for animals in need. Wet and dry food, cleaning supplies, treats and other items will be collected at the Parks and Recreation building all season.
