From the Office of the Southbury First Selectman.
The Town of Southbury remains committed to the ongoing recovery efforts in the aftermath of the recent severe storm. Today, our road crews have continued to address safety concerns and restore damaged roadways. We recognize that some areas of our town have suffered extensive damage, and we anticipate that these locations will require considerable time and resources to be fully repaired.
As we move forward, we are actively collaborating with the Region 15 School District to develop a comprehensive plan for the start of school next Tuesday. We understand the importance of ensuring a safe and secure environment for our students and staff, and we in conjunction with the Region, will provide updates as plans are finalized.
Additionally, the Town of Southbury has been working closely with Eversource, whose team has gone above and beyond in developing solutions to restore power to our residents as quickly and safely as possible. Their swift response has been instrumental in our recovery efforts during this challenging time.
We strongly urge residents to limit travel to essential needs only, as many roads remain compromised and hazardous. Your safety is our top priority, and we ask for your cooperation in avoiding unnecessary travel.
In response to the disruption of water services in some areas, Connecticut Water will have a potable water tanker available in the lower parking lot of the Town Hall for any residents in need. Please bring your own container for water collection.
We also want to caution our community about potential scammers who may try to take advantage of this situation. We encourage everyone to be vigilant and to consult the Better Business Bureau's resources on natural disasters, which can be found at the following link: https://www.bbb.org/all/natural-disasters.
We understand how devastating this disaster has been for many in our community, and we are doing our utmost to support the recovery process. Although the rain has stopped and the water has receded, Southbury is still under a state of emergency. We appreciate your patience and resilience as we work together to rebuild.
