Storm Updates

8/25/2024 - Flooding Update and Closed Roads - August 25, 2024

From the Office of the Southbury First Selectman:

Seven days ago, our community faced the largest flood in Southbury’s history. This flood tested our resilience and strength. We want to extend my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you for your cooperation and patience during this challenging time.

Our first priority continues to be the safety and well-being of our residents. Over the past few days, we have worked tirelessly alongside emergency responders, volunteers, and community partners to ensure that everyone is safe and that essential services are restored as quickly as possible. We are proud to report that significant progress has been made.

While many roads have been cleared and power has been restored to residents, we are still working on repairing some critical infrastructure. We ask for your continued understanding as our public works crews are on the ground, day and night, to address these remaining issues.

If you are in need of assistance, please visit our Town's Emergency Management page: https://southbury-ct.org/emergencycenter for more information.

It is essential that every homeowner documents their damage on the town website www.southbury-ct.org/emergencycenter. This documentation will allow FEMA to assess the damages and determine eligibility for assistance.

The following is a list of roads that remain closed:

  • Bucks Hill Road has sustained damage and may need to close for repairs for a period of time. We will update as more information becomes available. Although it remains passable at this time, avoid the area if at all possible.
  • Crook Horn Road: closed at Settlers Park
  • Georges Hill Road: closed from south of Kettletown State Park to Kettletown Road
  • Kettletown Road: closed between Stonegate Drive and Burr Road
  • Old Field Road: closed between Heritage Road and Poverty Road
  • Old Waterbury Road: closed at Church Road - accessible from Main Street North and Dublin Rd; closed to thru traffic west of Old Highway Road
  • Route 67: closed between Kettletown Road and Community House Road. Detour on Community House Road.
  • Sanford Road: closed between Jeremy Swamp and Jacob Road
