Storm Updates

8/27/2024 - USDA To Hold Flood Listening Session on August 28, 2024

News Release from USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service:

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) and Natural Resources Conservation service (NRCS) Risk Management Agency (RMA), the Connecticut Department of Agriculture, and UCONN Extension will hold a listening session in the Southbury Parks and Recreation Center at 561 Main Street South, Southbury, CT 06488 on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Farmers from the area impacted by the catastrophic rain and flooding are encouraged to attend and voice their needs to recover from the damages. Due to the significant road damage in the region, and transportation being difficult, farmers can join virtually at this link, or by calling 1-202-650-0123 and enter 918378074# when prompted.

Federal, state, and local leaders are also encouraged to attend so they can listen to the needs of their constituents and provide the resources necessary.

FSA, NRCS, State, and local agencies have disaster, emergency, and other programs that may help affected farmers. Staff will be onsite to help navigate the process to apply for assistance and answer any questions.

To learn more about FSA and NRCS programs, please visit our webpages or contact the local USDA Service Center. Farmers can also apply for FSA and NRCS programs, manage conservation plans and contracts, and view and print conservation maps by logging into their farmers.gov account, or can sign up today if needing to create an account. Additionally, FSA offers a Disaster Assistance Discovery Tool which helps farmers learn which disaster program might be right fit by completing five simple steps.

FSA is equitably serving all farmers and agricultural partners through the delivery of effective, efficient agricultural programs for all Americans. NRCS helps farmers and forestland owners make investments in their operations and local communities to implement conservation practices and improve the quality of our air, water, soil, and wildlife habitat.
