We will be transitioning from daily updates beginning tomorrow. If over Labor Day weekend we have any urgent messages or updates, we will be sending them via e-alert, Facebook, and post our website. If you have any emergency that needs immediate attention, please dial 9-1-1.

FEMA

Town officials met with FEMA, SBA, and DEMA representatives yesterday and today to conduct a sampling of residential assessments in Town. Approximately 20 home assessments were completed yesterday and another 25 today.

Senator Richard Blumenthal and FEMA Congressional/External Affairs Officer Diego Alvarado, and First Selectman Manville conducted a press conference from Southbury this morning with several media outlets in attendance. Then, they joined the residential assessment teams in the field to meet homeowners, listen to their stories, and see the damage first-hand. Senator Blumenthal said he was convinced that a Connecticut major disaster declaration is well warranted.

FEMA and SBA teams will be back in Southbury next week. “We are committed to stay here as long as it takes,” said FEMA Officer Alvarado.

Meeting with Area Clergy

First Selectman Manville, his assistant Bonnie Rado, and Emergency Director Steve Schnell met with the area clergy yesterday to discuss how local faith-based organizations can support the community during this trying time. It was a productive meeting, and the town appreciates the support they have offered. Thank you to the eight churches and synagogues represented at this discussion.
