General Information
Careful planning has made Southbury what it is today: a beautiful suburban town with rural character, a pristine commercial corridor, very desirable residential areas, strong education system, steady fiscal conditions and rolling green hills of public open space. Southbury’s location on Interstate 84 makes it a highly visible and convenient location for many types of commercial development. Rich in history, with a sense of community, Southbury is home to IBM and an educated, motivated work force. Government is by local people who maintain a commitment to listen and be responsive to the needs of our business customers.
Southbury's economic development team consists of a full-time development director, economic development commission members, elected officials and a local business group. Our economic development strategy for the Town of Southbury seeks to continually improve the economic health of the community, while maintaining the scale and country feel of Southbury as growth occurs.
In addition to attracting new businesses, we meet with the current ones and discuss how the town can assist them in improving their business position. It is our hope that by supporting our businesses we will encourage them to grow, which will create more local jobs and commercial development, and attract additional businesses to Town.
Southbury’s Development Services Team (DST) is comprised of Town Department Heads that impact commercial development and meet by appointment with prospective business owners in an informal format that allows the business owner to discuss their initial plan.
If you are considering Southbury as a home for your business or if you have any questions about the town's business environment, please call Kevin Bielmeier at (203) 262-0683 or email us at: ecodevdirector@southbury-ct.gov.
